The name

The bead you never cross.

On every mala, one bead sits at the head, just above the tassel. That is the sumeru. When your count reaches it, you turn the mala around instead of crossing over. Sumeru is also the sacred mountain at the centre of the world.

Count the way your fingers already know.

  • A 108-bead mala on screen. Tap anywhere, or press the phone's volume keys.
  • Counted one too many? ‘एक कम’ takes it back. Every count is saved the moment it happens.
  • After 108, the count carries straight on into the next mala.
  • Eyes-closed mode keeps counting. It even turns on when you switch the screen off with the power button.
  • Vibration on every bead. A wooden-bead sound and a soft Om are there if you want them, off until you turn them on.
